J.M. Porteous was born and raised in Colorado. An avid hiker and runner, he shares a deep interest in nature and in researching the relationship between people and their environments. His debut novel, Daughter of the Grove, was inspired by a course on 17th-century medicinal practices, along with the haunting beauty of the Black Forest in Germany. He primarily writes a blend of historical and gothic fiction, focusing on forgotten stories from the untold regions of history. Looking ahead, he plans to continue writing historical fiction while exploring fantasy and fairy-tale retellings.
